How Intake Works
Every dog deserves to be truly known. Responsible intake is where that commitment begins.
Artemis House practices mission-aligned, capacity-based intake — not open admission.
Who We're Built to Serve
We focus on dogs who can be overlooked, become increasingly overwhelmed, or struggle to find their footing in a busy kennel environment. We also serve young puppies, mothers with babies, and dogs needing extra care and closer attention.
Our approach brings together quiet, thoughtfully prepared spaces, consistent caregivers, and patient, force-free care. We stay intentionally small so each dog has time to feel safe and become truly known.
What we consider before saying yes
-
Alignment with our mission
-
An appropriate foster setting and prepared caregiver
-
Veterinary support for individual care and safety needs
-
Financial resources for anticipated care and emergencies
-
A dependable support TEAM and backup plan
-
Capacity to sustain care through adoption without compromising dogs or people already in our care
A dog may fit our mission while exceeding our current capacity. Declining a placement does not diminish that dog’s worth.
Approval Comes Before Transfer
An inquiry, referral, foster offer, or funding offer does not guarantee acceptance. Artemis House must explicitly approve the placement and confirm care and handoff arrangements before a dog enters our care.
Where We Are Now
We’re preparing for our first carefully planned placements, with a goal of January 2027. Intake will begin when our people, systems, veterinary arrangements, and resources are ready.
Questions about our intake approach may be directed to info@artemishousefoster.org. We are not currently accepting dogs into care.
