Artemis House is a small, foster-rooted dog rescue community forming in North Georgia, committed to helping vulnerable dogs feel safe enough to heal and come home — first to themselves, then to the people who will love them for life.

Our promise:
We see you.
We protect you.
We walk you home.

Healing Begins with Felt Safety

Our Beliefs About Dogs

What Makes Us Different: Focused on Vulnerable Dogs

Focused on Vulnerable Dogs

Our work centers on dogs who are especially vulnerable in shelter environments: fearful, shut-down, overwhelmed, under-socialized, fragile, emotionally sensitive, senior, or very young dogs, and dogs whose nervous systems struggle to recover in a traditional shelter setting. All dogs are deserving. All dogs matter. But Artemis House cannot take every dog. Our strength comes from staying focused on the dogs we are specifically built to serve. Saying yes responsibly means understanding our capacity, our foster homes, our resources, and whether we can truly meet a dog’s needs. Our promise is not that we will take every dog. Our promise is that when we say yes, we will walk them all the way home.

What Makes Us Different: Fosters Are the Heart

Fosters Are the Heart

Fosters are the heartbeat of Artemis House. At Artemis House, fosters are not only essential caregivers, but trusted voices and advocates in each dog’s journey. Their insight matters. Their relationship with the dog matters. Their love matters. They are not simply a place for a dog to stay. They are the safe, steady presence that helps a vulnerable dog begin to soften, trust, and show who they are. We know fostering can be both deeply joyful and deeply tender. Loving a dog enough to help them heal — and then helping them continue the journey home — is sacred work. At Artemis House, we honor the hands and hearts that make that homecoming possible.

What Makes Us Different: Match-based Adoption

Match-Based Adoption

Artemis House believes each adoption should be centered on the individual dog’s needs. Adoption is not just about placing a dog in a home. It is about helping that dog truly come home. We do not place dogs through a first-come, first-served adoption process. We are looking for the right home — the one where the dog can feel safe, understood, supported, and truly belong. We strive to create lasting placements built on understanding, compatibility, support, and trust — so dogs and humans can thrive together for life.

What Makes Us Different: Small by Design

Small by Design

Small is not a weakness. Small is how Artemis House protects quality, intimacy, and individualized care. We remain small enough to know our dogs deeply, support our fosters responsibly, and advocate for each dog as an individual. Every dog’s needs, healing timeline, and adoption path are different. No one-size-fits-all. No rushing. We do not measure success by speed or volume. We measure it by the depth of safety, advocacy, and support we can offer each dog in our care.

What Makes Us Different: A Circle of Care

A Circle of Care

Artemis House dogs are not simply passed from one person to another during their journey to home - their circle of care widens! Fosters, volunteers, supporters, community members, and adopters, who all come to know them as individuals. As a dog moves into their forever home, we want adopters to feel supported. The foster’s knowledge, the dog’s history, and the Artemis House community become resources they can count on as their new family member settles in. In that way this major life transition is honored for all involved, especially for vulnerable dogs leaving a familiar routines and trusted people. Our process honors the dog’s emotional experience.

What Makes Us Different: A Culture of Safety

A Culture of Safety

People get to exhale here too. A rescue cannot be truly safe for dogs if it is not also safe for the people caring for them. At Artemis House, this means honest expectations, solid processes and procedures, clear communication channels, consistent support, and healthy boundaries that people can count on. We are building a community where people feel encouraged, supported, and safe enough to be honest about their capacity, questions, needs, and limits. It means people are seen and acknowledged for what they give, without any one person being expected to carry too much. This allows them to continue showing up with integrity, steadiness, and compassion for the long term.
